Description

Broad lotus petals sit above curling waves, giving this Guanyin a distinctive foundation. Long folds descend from the shoulders, gather around the waist and part above the bare feet. In reddish-brown copper, the brighter ridges and darker recesses make the drapery easy to read from a distance.

Closer up, the expression is composed: lowered eyes, a small mouth and a seated Buddha at the center of the crown. One hand is raised near the chest. The other carries a slender vase angled downward, held lightly between the fingers.

A Small Vessel, a Reminder of Compassion

Water-Vase Guanyin describes the figure through the vessel in her hand. This ritual water vessel is called a jingping (净瓶) in Chinese, hence the descriptive name Jingping Guanyin. In Guanyin imagery, the vase holds purifying water, linking this quiet gesture with the bodhisattva’s compassion. Kuan Yin is another familiar English spelling of Guanyin.

The lotus and curling waves continue the water theme beneath Jingping Guan Yin. Their broad forms give the tall copper figure a substantial foundation, while the small vessel and raised hand remain easy to distinguish above the deeply folded robes.

Space for the Whole Figure

Made in Tongling, Anhui, this copper Kuan Yin statue stands 57 cm (22.4 in) high, including its pedestal. Allow space above the crown and around the raised hand so the silhouette remains clear. The rear view has its own sweep of robe folds, useful when the statue will be seen from more than one side.
