A book or scroll introduces the subject of scripture into a Guanyin figure. The form of the object, how it is supported and where the gaze falls can make a Kuan Yin particularly engaging for a space devoted to reading or contemplation. A specific sutra is named only when the work’s documentation supports it.
Choose the Guan Yin subject first, then compare material, height and the relationship between the hands and scripture. Both seated Guanyin and standing Quan Yin can offer useful posture comparisons; the subject itself is not restricted to one base, color or material.

One knee raised and a scroll held loosely in the left hand, Chijing Guanyin has the ease of someone pausing over a passage. Glossy ivory porcelain follows the long folds of the robe down to a pierced rock seat. At 34 cm (13.4 in) tall, the figure gives a study or personal shrine a distinct focus.
