The ruyi scepter gives this Guanyin subject its name. Its name is commonly translated as “as you wish,” making the held object a meaningful detail for someone choosing a personal devotional piece or a gift of good wishes.
A Ruyi Guan Yin may be seated or standing; neither a particular ceramic finish nor a lotus-and-wave base defines the whole subject. Look at the scepter’s shape and its relationship to the hands, then compare the material and dimensions of the individual Kuan Yin. Seated figures and standing Quan Yin statues provide two useful routes for choosing the posture that suits your space.

Guanyin stands above a coiled dragon, holding a long ruyi scepter across her flowing robes. Warm boxwood and a finely carved halo give this 18 cm (7.1 in) figure a rich presence on a shelf or personal altar, with details to enjoy from the back as well as the front.
A curved ruyi rests across Guanyin’s hands above a base of lotus blossoms and curling waves. Its name means “as you wish”—a fitting sentiment for a gift marking a new beginning.
