Xiangyun Songzi Guanyin Statue with a Child

Description

A small child rests across Guanyin’s lap, the red bib bright against ivory robes. One of Guanyin’s hands supports the child, whose fingers curl around a little ornament. The Xiangyun Songzi Guanyin statue brings the two figures together above lotus petals and a ring of curling clouds.

Songzi Guanyin and the Hope for Children

Songzi (送子), often translated as “child-giving,” belongs to a tradition of approaching Guanyin with hopes for children. This Songzi Kuan Yin centers on the closeness of an adult and child, with the bright red bib drawing attention to the small figure in the lap. The boy and girl options let you choose the depicted child.

A Boy or a Girl in Guanyin’s Lap

The boy version has a single dark hair tuft, while the girl has two side buns. Each is pictured separately so you can compare the child’s face and small details. Both share the same ivory, red and gold-tone palette, seated pose and approximate dimensions. Your selection is for one statue depicting Guanyin with the chosen child.

Auspicious Clouds, Painted in Dehua

Xiangyun (祥云) means auspicious clouds, reflected in the curling motifs around the base. The ceramic figure is made in Dehua, Fujian, China. Glossy ivory robes are edged with gold-tone painted lines; the red bib, black hair and softly coloured faces give the child and Guanyin distinct expressions.

Dimensions and Care

Overall dimensions are approximately 29 cm (11.4 in) high, 14 cm (5.5 in) long and 12 cm (4.7 in) wide. Place the statue on a level indoor shelf or shrine with space around the projecting hand. Lift it from the base and dust gently with a soft, dry brush, taking care around the fingers and small ornaments. Supplied as one ceramic sculpture in protective packaging.
