Description
The raised hand gives this Guanyin with willow and vase an expressive, open silhouette. The fingers hold the sprig away from the body, while the other hand keeps the vessel upright at the waist. Across the brass robes, bright ridges and shaded recesses make the folds easy to read. A small seated Buddha appears in the crown above the gently lowered gaze.
Why South Sea Guanyin?
South Sea Guanyin is the English name for Nanhai Guanyin (南海观音), also written South Sea Kuan Yin. The name recalls Guanyin’s island abode, Mount Potalaka, associated in Chinese Buddhist tradition with Mount Putuo. It expresses devotion to the bodhisattva of compassion.
The willow and water vase are associated with sprinkling purifying water in Guanyin imagery. Here, the raised fingers hold the sprig away from the body, while the vase remains upright. That open gesture distinguishes the hands above the closely ribbed double lotus seat of Nanhai Kuan Yin.
The Lotus Seat, at Your Scale
Each size has its own modeled details. The face, crown, willow and folds vary across the range, so the photograph changes with your selected height. The smallest figure fits a compact prayer shelf; the larger versions give the lotus seat and drapery more presence on an altar table. The additional close views and rotating video show the 38 cm (15.0 in) model.
This brass Nanhai Guanyin is made in Tongling, Anhui. The surface is warm brass-colored, with darker recesses defining the petals and robes. The deep ribs of the lotus seat contrast with the broader, smooth folds around the knees.
