Guanyin Crossing the Sea in Boxwood

Description

Two lotus blossoms lift Guanyin’s feet above a curling sea. Deep folds climb from the wave base to the drapery behind the halo, giving the carving a sense of movement from bottom to top. At its center, Guanyin’s lowered gaze and hands gathered around a small water vessel remain composed.

Guanyin Crossing the Sea

Duhai (渡海) means crossing the sea. Lotus blossoms lift the feet above waves, while the raised drapery and circular halo carry the movement upward. This Duhai Guan Yin gathers the sea-crossing subject into a narrow, 15 cm carving.

The open ring around the head gives the face room to stand out. From the side, the layers of drapery and rounded lotus petals become more apparent; from behind, long carved folds continue down toward the waves. Warm wood tones bring these transitions into view.

Two Boxwood Options, One Compact Form

The statue is available in large-leaf boxwood or small-leaf boxwood. Both options have the same stated dimensions: approximately 15 cm high × 7 cm wide × 5.5 cm deep (5.9 × 2.8 × 2.2 in), including the carved base. Wood grain and tone vary naturally between pieces.

You receive one Guanyin statue in your selected wood, including its carved lotus-and-wave base. The display tray shown in the photographs is a styling prop. The sculpture’s narrow footprint leaves space for other objects on an altar, while its side and rear carving make it rewarding to view beyond the front.

Support the base when lifting, with care around the halo, hands and projecting drapery. Display indoors away from moisture, direct sunlight and strong heat. A soft, dry brush helps remove dust from the deeper folds.
