Nanhai Three-Faced Guanyin Statue

Description

Walk around this Nanhai Three-Faced Guanyin statue and a different held object comes into view. One figure presents a lotus bud, another holds prayer beads, and the third supports a scripture scroll. Tall halos and flowing robes join the three sides into a single sculpture above a layered lotus pedestal.

The Meaning of the Three Faces

Nanhai means “South Sea,” and Sanmian means “three-faced.” The lotus, prayer beads and scripture bring associations of purity, compassion and wisdom to the three views of this Nanhai Kuan Yin. Position the sculpture where those separate attributes can be discovered around the shared pedestal.

Matte White, Glazed White or Painted Colour

Unglazed White has a matte surface that lets the sculpted folds and facial contours read softly. Glazed White reflects light along the robes and lotus petals. The painted version keeps the robes white, with green ornament, a pink lotus and gold-coloured accents around the halos and borders. Each finish has its own photographed model; the glazed version also has a different black stand and sculpted details.

Allow Room to See Each Side

Approximate dimensions for each finish are 37.5 cm (14.8 in) high, 14 cm (5.5 in) long and 14 cm (5.5 in) wide. A stable indoor surface with space around the sculpture will reveal more of the three-sided composition.

Included and Handling

One ceramic three-faced Guanyin sculpture in the selected finish, with its matching black display stand. Support the sculpture from beneath when moving it, holding the stand separately. Avoid lifting by a halo, hand or held object, and dust the fine details gently with a soft brush.
