Description

A slim blue-green vase rests in the open palm, its pink flowers echoing the tips of the lotus petals below. The other hand lifts a pale green willow beside the shoulder. These small gestures draw the eye toward the face, where gently lowered eyes and a slight smile soften the formal seated pose.

Made in Dehua, China, this painted porcelain Guanyin has luminous white robes outlined with fine gold-colored edging. A turquoise necklace with a pink flower sits below the white hood; a small painted Buddha appears in the crown. The broad lotus seat combines lavender and pink petals with pale yellow, blue and turquoise details above a dark brown lower base.

The Linghui Name and the Willow

Linghui Guanyin (灵慧观音) is this design’s Chinese name, suggesting spiritual insight. Guanyin, also written Kuan Yin, is the bodhisattva of compassion. The willow and water vase are longstanding attributes in Guanyin imagery, with the vessel’s pure water associated with compassion and wisdom. Linghui Kuan Yin brings those ideas into a familiar, personal setting: an altar for daily devotion or a place to pause and reflect.
