Chijing Guanyin Holding a Sutra Scroll

$1,199.00

One knee raised and a scroll held loosely in the left hand, Chijing Guanyin has the ease of someone pausing over a passage. Glossy ivory porcelain follows the long folds of the robe down to a pierced rock seat. At 34 cm (13.4 in) tall, the figure gives a study or personal shrine a distinct focus.

Description

The small roll of scripture is easy to miss at first. It rests across the open left hand, below the flowing sleeves and beside the raised knee. The other hand falls over the knee, leaving the seated figure open and asymmetrical. This Chijing Guanyin statue rewards a closer look: the curled end of the scroll, the bare feet and the small beads on the adjoining rock ledge all remain visible from different angles.

Chijing: Holding the Sutra

Chijing (持经) means holding a Buddhist scripture. The rolled text distinguishes this Chijing Quan Yin from figures carrying a flower or water vase, connecting the subject with Buddhist teaching and study. Positioned beside books or a place of recitation, the small scroll remains the detail that explains the choice.

Ivory Glaze and a Sculpted Rock Seat

A warm ivory glaze covers the figure and base, pooling in shadow along the folds and reflecting light on the smooth sleeves. The rock seat has irregular openings and curling wave-like relief at its foot. The supplier calls this finish antique-style porcelain; the term describes its appearance, rather than the age of the piece.

Size and Placement

Overall dimensions are approximately 34 cm (13.4 in) high, 19 cm (7.5 in) long and 13 cm (5.1 in) wide. Set the figure on a level indoor surface with room around the projecting rock ledge and above the hair ornament. A plain backdrop makes the outline and small scroll easier to see.

What Is Included

One ivory-glazed porcelain Chijing Guanyin statue, supplied in a presentation box. The scroll, vessel and bead details are depicted as part of the sculpture; no separate ritual accessories are included. Support the base with both hands when moving the statue and use a soft brush to dust around the fingers and scroll.
