Boxwood Guanyin with Bamboo-Inspired Robes

A lotus rises beside the shoulder of this slender boxwood Guanyin, while rounded bands of drapery recall the joints of a bamboo stem. The warm natural tone and deeper antiqued brown offer two distinct expressions of the same design. Each statue comes in a gift box.

Description

Broad bands of drapery wrap the figure, widening and narrowing like the joints of a bamboo stem. A lotus bud and curled leaf rise beside Guanyin’s shoulder. Seen from behind, the layered folds continue around the body, following the wood’s grain.

Why the Bamboo Form?

The bamboo-like silhouette gives this carving its name: Zhujie Guanyin (竹节观音), referring to bamboo joints or segments. The bamboo robe Guanyin is carved in small-leaf boxwood; the bamboo reference describes its shape. With one forearm resting across the body and eyes gently lowered, the figure has a composed, inward-looking expression.

Warm Wood or Antiqued Brown

The Natural Tone version has a honey-colored appearance, with grain visible across the robe and face. Antiqued Brown brings reddish-brown highlights and darker recesses to the carving. This is an antique-style finish on a contemporary piece.

A Narrow Footprint in Either Size

The 10 cm option is a miniature, just 2.8 cm (1.1 in) wide. The larger version gives the face and shoulder lotus more presence while remaining slim enough for a small display shelf. Carved ornament differs between the two sizes; the comparison photograph shows both natural-tone figures together.

10 cm option: approximately 10 × 2.8 × 2.5 cm (3.9 × 1.1 × 1.0 in), height × width × depth.
20 cm option: approximately 20.5 × 5.9 × 5.3 cm (8.1 × 2.3 × 2.1 in), height × width × depth. This is the size listed as 20 cm (7.9 in).

You receive one boxwood Guanyin in your selected size and finish, with a gift box. Wood tone and grain vary between individual carvings. The display tray and other background objects are not included.

Place on a level indoor surface. Support the lower body when lifting, keeping pressure off the lotus and crown. Dust with a soft, dry brush and keep away from water, direct sunlight and heat.
