Description

The small lotus beneath one foot is easy to overlook at first. It softens the angular rock-shaped seat and gives this Water Moon Guanyin statue its distinctive balance: an upright torso, a lifted knee and a long fall of robes. The tall crown and ornamental necklace add detail without hiding the open posture.

The surface is blue-gray with a fine-grained appearance. In side-by-side photographs, the two sizes also show differences in the right arm and robe folds. The smaller figure extends the arm farther outward; the larger figure keeps the hand closer to the knee. Each size has its own photographs so you can choose the version you prefer.

The Water Moon Name

Water Moon Guanyin takes its name from the image of the moon reflected in water. In Buddhist art, that reflection evokes the fleeting nature of appearances. Shuiyue Guanyin (水月观音) is the Chinese name for the same subject. Here, the raised knee, rock-shaped seat and small lotus beneath one foot give the contemplative theme a distinctive outline.

The lotus footrest and rocky seat make this Water Moon Quan Yin more than a figure in a relaxed pose: they form a compact setting around it. Compare the two sizes closely, since the reach of the arm and fall of the robes are not identical.
