Description
Color gives this lotus-seated Guanyin its warmth. The robes move from soft orange to deeper red, edged with gold-colored lines that pick out the cuffs and folded fabric. Blue-black hair sets off the gold-colored face; below, rows of broad lotus petals catch the light. Seen from the side, the silhouette stays compact and balanced, with the hands held close to the body.
Lotus-Seated Guanyin: The Meaning of Zuolian
Lotus-Seated Guanyin is the English description of Zuolian Guanyin (坐莲观音): Guanyin seated on a lotus. The name points to the sculpture’s posture and pedestal. In Buddhist imagery, a lotus rising clean from muddy water expresses purity. Here, the substantial flower-shaped throne gives that familiar symbol a visible place beneath the crossed legs.
The leafy sprig and water vase are familiar attributes of Guanyin’s compassion. On this painted brass Kuan Yin, they stay close to the body while the changing reds and gold-colored borders draw attention across the robes. The substantial lotus remains a clear foundation beneath the folded legs.
Warm Color, Cast Brass
This painted brass Guanyin statue is made in Tongling, Anhui. Its red and gold-colored finish brings out the contrast between smooth skin, narrow ornamental borders and the deeper folds of the robe. A softly lit shelf or personal shrine lets those contrasts remain visible without harsh reflections.
The heights differ in more than scale: the face, hand positions and robe details vary between the photographed versions. Select a height to see its own front view. The extended gallery follows the 37.8 cm (14.9 in) version; the interior photograph illustrates a possible setting.

Use a soft, dry cloth for dusting; avoid immersion, abrasive polish and harsh cleaners that could damage the colored surface.
