Lotus Guanyin Figurine with Prayer Beads (Lianhua Guanyin)

Description

Held low against the robes, the loop of prayer beads draws the eye down this slender figure to the lotus beneath its feet. The long sleeves overlap at the wrists; the hems sweep outward before meeting the rounded petals. This Lotus Guanyin with prayer beads has a clear, upright outline that can be appreciated even on a small shelf.

The Lotus in Lianhua Guanyin

The layered flower beneath the standing figure explains the name Lotus Guanyin. Its rounded petals gather the long, narrow robes into a small base. Lianhua Guanyin (莲花观音) is the Chinese name: lianhua means lotus flower. In Buddhist imagery, the lotus is associated with awakening.

The prayer beads are held low against the robe, drawing attention down toward the flower rather than outward to a raised hand. This Lianhua Guan Yin has a narrow standing outline, suited to a close view where the small bead loop can be appreciated.

A Small Figure, Seen Up Close

The gray surface has a fine granular appearance. Light catches the edges of the crown, necklace and robe folds, while the recessed areas stay darker. The material is described by the supplier as Qingsha stone (青砂石).

• Height: approximately 15.3 cm (6.0 in).
• Length × width: approximately 4.6 × 4.6 cm (1.8 × 1.8 in).
• One gray Guanyin figure with the lotus pedestal shown.

Place it on a level indoor surface and lift it by the body and base. A soft, dry brush can reach the folds and spaces around the beads. Furniture and background props shown in the photograph are not included.
