Description

Guanyin stands within an unfurling lotus leaf, one hand raised and a slender vase resting in the other. A rounded lotus supports her feet, while buds, a seedpod and long carved strands carry the form upward and around the back. This Lotus Leaf Guanyin statue rewards a place where you can see more than its front.

The Lotus Around Guanyin

Lotus Leaf Guanyin takes its name from the broad lotus leaf that surrounds Guanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion. The curling leaf frames her standing figure, while lotus buds rise above her crown. The same name is written 莲叶观音 in Chinese and Lianye Guanyin in pinyin.

The lotus is associated with purity in Buddhist tradition. On this wooden Guan Yin, its leaves, buds and seedpod become an enveloping botanical setting. The long strands and broad leaf continue around the back, making the rear view part of the composition.

The leaf is more than a flat backdrop. Its rim turns outward, veins spread across the reverse, and strings of carved beads follow its length. On the front, the smooth robe and small raised hand contrast with the rounded petals and swirling base below. A side view reveals how these layers overlap.

Dark Wood, Finished on Both Sides

Hand-carved in heitan wood, this wooden Kuan Yin has a deep brown tone with a polished sheen. Light catches the leaf edges and robe folds while the recesses remain dark. Wood color and grain vary naturally from piece to piece.

A Place for a Taller Figure

The sculpture measures approximately 58 × 23 × 14 cm (22.8 × 9.1 × 5.5 in), height × width × depth. Its tall silhouette suits a home shrine, spacious console or dedicated display shelf. Leave space above the lotus buds and around the sides so the full outline remains visible.

One Guanyin sculpture and a gift box are included. The table and other display props shown in the photographs are not included.

Keep indoors, away from direct sunlight, heaters and prolonged damp. Dust with a soft, dry cloth or brush. Support the base when moving the sculpture; avoid lifting by the leaf, hands or carved bead strands.
