Seated Willow Guanyin Statue (Yangzhi Guanyin)

Description

The Yangzhi Guanyin statue sits with one knee lifted beneath the robe and a bare foot at the edge of the lotus. The other leg folds across the seat. This open, uneven pose gives the figure a sense of ease, while the upright vase and lifted willow branch keep the hands at the center of the composition.

The white surface catches light along the sleeves and the fine ribs of the lotus petals. Below, curling waves and rounded relief form a broad lower pedestal. The back is also modeled: long folds fall toward a tied motif above the waves. The photographs include both views, along with close-ups of the face and hands.

Why Willow Guanyin?

Yangzhi (杨枝) means willow branch, while Yangliu (杨柳) means willow. Both Chinese names refer to the sprig held beside the raised hand of this seated Willow Guanyin.

The willow and pure-water vase are associated with purification and compassion in Guanyin imagery. Here, both stay upright above an open seated pose, with one knee raised. The waves under the lotus continue the water theme through the pedestal.

Material and Display

Includes one statue with the sculpted pedestal shown. Place it indoors on a stable, level surface. Support the pedestal when moving it and keep pressure off the projecting willow leaves, fingers and crown. Dust gently with a soft brush.
