Sea-Crossing Guanyin Statue on a Lotus Leaf

$649.00

The leaf is almost boat-like: its two ends rise above a curling wave, while the standing figure remains still. At 55 cm (21.7 in), this white porcelain Sea-Crossing Guanyin offers a tall focal point for an altar, with the broad leaf giving the sculpture an unusually open silhouette.

Description

A sweeping lotus leaf carries the figure above a rounded crest of water. Its upturned ends spread beyond the narrow fall of the robes, and a lotus flower emerges beside the wave. Guanyin stands barefoot, one hand raised near the chest and the other supporting a small vase. The white surface lets light trace the long folds and the ridges of the leaf.

Guanyin crossing the sea

Duhai (渡海) means crossing the sea. Here, a broad lotus leaf carries the standing figure over a cresting wave, giving Duhai Quan Yin a boat-like foundation. The still posture above moving water connects the sea-crossing subject with Guanyin’s compassion through difficulty.

The Chinese design name Lilian Duhai Guanyin combines the standing lotus composition with the sea-crossing subject. This white porcelain figure pairs a tall, narrow body with a wider leaf-and-wave base. That change in proportion is part of its character; allow room around the raised leaf tips when planning an altar or display.
