Nanhai Guanyin Statue Seated on a Lotus Base

Description

This Nanhai Guanyin figure sits upright on a layered lotus base, holding a narrow-necked vase in the left hand with the right hand raised. Made in Dehua, Fujian, the ceramic statue is designed for home worship.

Guanyin of the Southern Seas

Nanhai means “Southern Seas.” The name connects Guanyin with the sacred abode of Mount Potalaka and its Chinese association with Mount Putuo. This seated Nanhai Quan Yin presents that devotional subject through an upright pose, an open raised hand and a vase balanced above the layered lotus.
