Mini Seated Guanyin Figurine (Jingping)

Description

The oversized head, full cheeks and small seated body give this Mini Jingping Guanyin its playful proportions. A little crown rises above the hair, while the eyes close into shallow curves. The robe falls across the lap, leaving the raised knee and one foot visible.

This small Kuan Yin figurine is an easy piece to place among books or beside a journal. Its gray, fine-grained surface keeps attention on the expression and pose. The whole figure measures approximately 7.5 cm (3.0 in) high, with a footprint of 4.5 × 3.3 cm (1.8 × 1.3 in).

A Little Guanyin, a Familiar Meaning

Guanyin is the bodhisattva of compassion; the longer name Guanshiyin refers to hearing the sounds of the world. This mini Quan Yin gives that familiar subject a contemporary character through its oversized head, closed eyes and compact, relaxed pose.

With its rounded face, raised knee and relaxed proportions, Mini Seated Guanyin gives a familiar devotional subject a playful character. Its Chinese design name is Jingping Guanyin (净瓶观音); Jingping means “pure-water vase.” The Q version refers to the rounded miniature styling shown here.
