Description

The two hands hold the eye: a green willow branch curls beside the raised fingers, while a pale green vase rests upright in the lower hand. Beneath the crossed legs, pink-tipped lotus petals open above teal leaves and deep blue waves. Cilian Guanyin has a broad, seated silhouette, with the brighter colors concentrated at the front.

The Willow, the Vase and Compassion

Cilian (慈莲) is the name of this design. Its willow and vase belong to Guanyin’s traditional imagery of compassion, while the blue robes and white veil give this Cilian Kuan Yin a distinct painted character. The green branch and vase remain separate points of color above the lotus.

Blue Robes, a White Veil

This blue-robed Kuan Yin is made in Dehua, Fujian, China. The ceramic figure has a glossy painted finish, with a white veil extending down the back. Small gold-tone accents appear at the crown, necklace, wrists and wave base. The close-up photographs show the face, fingers, vase and lotus separately; the rear view shows the simpler white drapery.

Dimensions and Placement

The statue measures approximately 30.5 cm (12.0 in) high, 17.5 cm (6.9 in) long and 14 cm (5.5 in) wide. Allow room around the projecting branch and lotus petals on a level indoor altar or display shelf. You will receive one Cilian Guanyin statue in the blue painted finish shown, with its lotus and wave base.

Lift from beneath the base, keeping pressure off the branch, fingers and crown. Dust gently with a soft, dry brush.
